Letter Writing Best Practices
Be Clear and Concise
State exactly what is wrong and what the correct information should be. Avoid emotional language or lengthy explanations. Stick to facts.
Include Account Identifiers
Always include account numbers, creditor names, and dates exactly as they appear on your credit report to avoid confusion.
Attach Evidence (Don't Just Reference It)
Include copies of supporting documents with your letter. Don't just say "I have proof" — show it. Reference each attachment in your letter.
Keep Copies of Everything
Make copies of your letter and all documents before sending. Keep a dispute folder with all correspondence, tracking numbers, and responses.
